RCHA Goes to Frankfort

On Friday, February 21st, the Russell County Homeschool Association students spent the day exploring Frankfort, Kentucky. This field experience is the second part of this year's study of local, state, and federal government. The students enjoyed seeing and experiencing Kentucky's rich history, as well as, spending time with today's leaders at the state Capitol.
Here are some of the highlights of the day:
First stop: The Old State Capitol

Our tour guide, Alexis, telling the group about the building's history.

Explaining the construction of the Floating Staircase

The old Senate Chamber

Our students had great questions and even better answers. These students did their homework and were well-prepared to discuss Kentucky history!

Jayson tried his hand at being clerk.

Miss Kate, our Senate President!

Two senators ready to work on some legislation.  The students took part in a mock Senate session. It was a great learning experience and a lot of fun!

Ready to tour the New Capitol

Sen. Sara Beth Gregory welcomed our group to the Senate floor. She talked with the kids about the legislative process, the role of a Senator, and more. She was so very gracious and kind to our group and we greatly appreciate her service to our community.

More questions and answers!

Visiting the Supreme Court Chambers

What's a trip to the Capitol without rubbing Abe Lincoln's toe!

A quick peek into the Governor's office.

A beautiful sunny sky over our grand Capitol.

This trip was fun, fascinating, and full of new experiences. It is a joy to travel with this group as we see and experience new things.  Kentucky's motto is "United We Stand, Divided We Fall".  Each family in our young association could educate at home all on their own. However, it is wonderful to stand together as a group and to encourage one another on the journey.
Until our next adventure...
